I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the
Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information of the
Secretary of State for the Colonies, that My Lords
have under consideration proposals to deepen certain
areas in Hong Kong Harbour and the approaches to a depth
of 64 fathoms.
My Lords consider it would be an advantage to
the Admiralty if arrangements could be made for this
work to be carried out by the Hong Kong Government on
their behalf after the dredging included in the present
contract is completed, which it is understood will be
about July or August 1935.
On the assumption that the Secretary of State
for the Colonies sees no objection in principle, I am to
state that the Naval Commander-in-Chief, China Station,
is being directed to enquire of His Excellency the
Governor of Hong Kong as to the conditions and terms
/under....
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial office,
S.W.1.
